Elderstage

Elderstage is a dynamic, practical and insightful certification program developed to assist participants to understand the complex realities faced by seniors and their family caregivers.  Based on a holistic model, the course addresses the physical, emotional, social and financial wellness of seniors.  Knowledge gained can be readily applied to any relationship with seniors, be it personal or professional.  The course is delivered by instructors with many years of experience in various facets of senior care, financial/ legal services and marketing.

Elderstage is unique to the elder education industry in that it is solely Canadian and provided by people with real-life, hands-on experience who have dedicated their careers to the senior care arena.  The managing partner from a London based law firm who took the course “appreciated that the instructors were experienced and had an authentic grasp of their subject matter.”  Elderstage certification can only augment all professional designations and enhance professional credibility. “I would heartily recommend this course to all professionals and business people”, states a Toronto- based bank branch manager with TD Canada Trust who also took the course.  It enables brokers to differentiate themselves with confidence when dealing with older clients and their families, and assists professionals to meet their ethical responsibility and professional mandate to better understand the needs and expectations of this demographic group.  “I use what I learned every time I deal with older clients,” a financial planner reports. “The course has made me a more knowledgeable, sensitive and well-rounded advisor”.

Elderstage is a 40-hour course which can be provided in a 5-day series or be adapted to a module format.  Modules include an exploration of aging in North America, the long term care system in Canada, seniors’ wellness, family and support systems, financial challenges for seniors, and doing business with seniors and their adult children.  Participants will have three months in which to write a three-hour examination following the conclusion of the course.  The tuition fee of $1000 or $250 per individual module is inclusive of the first year of membership as an Elderstage graduate.  The course is eligible for FSCO continuing education credits.

The ongoing annual membership fee for Elderstage is $100.  Membership benefits include use of the Elderstage designation on promotional materials, three individualized one-to-one coaching sessions  per year, at a time convenient to the member, and an invitation to attend, at reduced rate, various networking and educational events held throughout the year. Furthermore a variety of topics will be offered in workshop format on an ongoing basis in order to ensure that graduates maintain recognition of current issues. Members will also receive a quarterly newsletter which they will be given the opportunity to use under their own agency name for internal advertising purposes.
